I love me some Coke! (Coca-Cola that is)

18 Jan

I have a serious addiction to Coca-Cola.  I don’t know what it is about it, but I drink it like it’s water.  I literally chug them back to back, non-stop.  Look out if I’m doing some late night programming or video gaming.  I drink them like there’s no tomorrow.

We’ve been working extended hours at work, so my junior Marines have got to see a side of me they don’t normally see.  They’ve seen me drink my fair share of Coke at work, but they had no idea until we started working these extended hours.

Bye Bye USAA!!!!

15 Jan

So here’s the deal…

I’ve been a member of USAA for 13+ years. I’ve been banking with them and had insurance with them the entire time. I’ve had a car loan through them. I’ve had renters insurance for 6+ years, I’ve had boat insurance, mutual funds, everything. When we bought our house a few months ago (I went with Wells Fargo) I cancelled my renters insurance to get home owners insurancewith USAA and they wouldn’t insure me because it was hurricane season. So this irritated me a little but whatever. It’s understandable.

Then this morning, I go to transfer some money into savings only to have my savings account not show up in the drop down, so I look at my account listing and theres no savings account. Thinking this is a website issue, I log out and log back in, still no savings account.

So I call USAA and get their emergency line and he asks how can he help me with my debit card emergency or lost card issue and I stated that I logged onto USAA and my savings account was gone. He said I’d need to call back they only handle debit card emergencies and lost cards and I said what about lost savings accounts and he said nope I’d need to call back during normal hours.

I asked him when normal hours were and he gave me the mon-sat spiel and knowing tomorrow is a holiday, I asked if they were open tomorrow. He said no I needed to call Tuesday.

So my savings account, is gone, and they think it can wait until Tuesday??? Granted I didn’t have much if any money in it because I’ve already been having thoughts of switching anyways for better rates but for it to just be gone, scares me. What if I did have money in it? What if it was my checking account?

The only thing I can think of is since I’m fixing to deploy I’ve been trying to get all my accounts linked and setup for auto pay on my bills in the event I don’t have internet my payments are still getting made and maybe they closed it due to suspicious activity, but the problem with that, is I was linking my checking accounts, not my savings accounts and then setting up auto transfers from checking to savings…

Anyways, as of today, I’m going with Navy Fed. I’ve had an account with them as long as I have USAA but it’s just sat dormant since I’ve always used USAA.

High Dynamic Range (HDR) Photography

14 Jan

I’ve always been intrigued by High Dynamic Range photography.   The photos look so vibrant and alive and I’ve wanted to give it a stab for quite some time.   In October, I bought the Nikon D5100 after selling and upgrading from my Nikon D50.  One of the features I thought was cool about this camera was the fact that it had a HDR feature where, when selected, it would automatically take multiple photos to create an HDR.

Unfortunately, I either wasn’t doing something correct, or it just wasn’t that impressive to me.  This kicked me into gear for giving it an attempt.  So I bought an HDR book from Banes & Noble to give me some tips and ideas and I did a little research online.  I ended up coming up with the following: Read the rest of this entry »

Peach Mac Sucks!

11 Feb

Today, Dawn came up to the hospital to relieve me for a bit so I could get some fresh air.

I decided to go hunt down some cases for our iPhones I bought us yesterday.

I started with Target because we needed something else from there. Didn’t see anything too appealing. Off to Best Buy. Tried out the Otter Defender and liked it at first but after wearing it around the store I decided it was just too bulky for me. So I put it back and moved on.

My next stop was the Apple Store. Again, nothing to appealing so I decide to drive across town to Peach Mac. I buy a case for my wife, the Otter Commuter for me and some anti glare screen protectors.

Prior to buying the Commuter, I asked if I could try it on my phone as they were making a big deal of the buttons not aligning up. He said he couldn’t let me do that because it was packaged up too good. I said ok and decided to get it knowing the buttons wouldn’t be an issue since the Defender worked fine.

Upon getting back to the hospital, I put my wife’s case and screen protector on and she is satisfied. I then put on my screen protector but lint always finds my screen protectors. You should see my iPad lol. After scrapping the screen protector I try the case out. There was a sharp plastic edge up top that was uncomfortable on my ear when I talked. So I packaged it back up, keep in mind, there was no extreme packaging going on, not even a sticker to secure the box closed. After getting it back into the packaging I head back to Peach Mac.

I got back to Peach Mac about an hour and a half after I was first there buying my cases. I go to return it and he says he has to check with the manager. I guess he wasn’t sure if I was allowed? They say ok, I can return it but it’s a 10% restocking fee. Are you serious? My packaging looked absolutely no different than any other package on the shelf but you’re gonna charge me 10% to walk your fat ass three steps to the shelf to your left?

So, needless to say, I will never shop at Peach Mac again. It was only about a $4.00 fee or so, which isn’t entirely a big deal. It boils down to the concept of it though. I can understand charging 10% in something where the packaging is messed up or on a larger item like a computer or something but a flawless package that has been out of the store an hour?

Give me a break.

Lots of Updates

10 Feb

Hey all, it’s been a long time since I’ve written on here. Things have been especially hectic since we gave birth to our beautiful baby Kynlee.

For starters, as soon as she came home, Kyndell and I caught strep throat which caused Dawn and Kynlee to be locked in our bedroom for almost two weeks without being able to come out. This left me sleeping in Kyndell’s room with her. She didn’t like it too much when I moved out and went back to my room. She got pretty used to someone being in there with her, but she’s a big girl and got used to being in there by herself again, pretty quickly.

My back also went completely out just after Kynlee was born. I couldn’t hardly move, I couldn’t walk, I couldn’t stand erect, it hurt to stand. It just all hurt. The pain finally subsided though and my back has been feeling pretty good until recently which I’ll touch more on when I get to that point.

Christmas was ok, nothing too exciting, we were fairly broke with Dawn being out of work and me covering all the bills. We gave the older kids cash and Kyndell got toys. Kyla spent her money on a 32″ Flat Screen TV and Christian, spent all of his money on Legos.

January was a long month for me. I had to get ready for an inspection at work, was working long hours. And then, baby Kynlee got really sick to top it off. So sick, she had to be admitted to the hospital. We spent 6 days in the hospital, Jan 22-27. There was never a diagnosis of why she was in the hospital. All the test for things like RSV, Flu, etc. came back negative. They released her on that Thursday, she still wasn’t completely better. She had a cough still but they said that would be 2-3 weeks long and would go away after that. Well for the next week and a half she seemed to be getting better. She still had her cough but that didn’t seem to be a huge issue as it sounded like it was getting better.

Then came our MCAAT inspection which was held on Feb 1-2. We knocked it out of the park. We got a 96.21% and are getting a certificate of excellence! I’m very excited about the outcome of this inspection. Being so critical of myself, it’s nice to see that I’m just being anal, instead of being really jacked up.

Well this last weekend, Kynlee’s sickness seemed to deteriorate. Saturday morning she sounded a little congested and then on Sunday, it was back to sounding like it did prior to her going into the hospital the first time. We called the doctors office first thing Monday morning and got the first appointment of the day which was right at 10 am when the doctor gets in. Dr Thompson takes a look at Kynlee and admits her back into the hospital. This time, however, we have a diagnosis. She has RSV (which is a bad flu for babies) and Bronchitis. We’ve been here since Monday, Feb 8th and it should be a 4-5 day stay.

Since Dawn was the one to stay with her day and night during the last hospital stay due to my inspection and stuff, I told her I’m staying this time. Although I did stay the night with her last time and came during lunch, I want her to get some rest and relax. She’s crazy stressed out. This comes at no small price. It’s making my back start to hurt again. It probably flared up from my MRI I had done yesterday. I hate MRI’s. My back gets so stiff that I can’t even get up off the MRI table, I have to roll off.

So anyways, that’s whats been going on here for the most part.

Till next time,
Be safe and take care!

Day 5 of Baby Kynlee

19 Dec

Baby Kynlee has been with us 5 days now! It’s an exciting time in our lives. Unfortunately, I’ve been showing signs of illness and therefore I’ve had to basically quaranteen myself from her and my beautiful wife, Dawn. It sucks. I miss them and yet, they’re only one room over…

I should be feeling better soon though and then hopefully I can move back into our room and I can take some of the burden off of Dawns shoulders. But since Kynlee is being breast fed, there will only be so much that I can do.

I took the 3 older kids to see Yogi Bear in 3d. It was a great movie but I don’t think it will do too well since it’s mostly a cartoon of the current adult population. My 11 year old, and my friends 6 year old, didn’t even know who Yogi Bear is! It’s because they play all these crappy cartoons now a days.

Family Trip: Lights of the South

28 Nov

Tonight we headed out to Lights of the South. We gone every year for the past three years.

It’s a really neat experience. Basically, it’s a hay ride through a forest full of christmas lights. They have various charachters out there to include Dora, Hello Kitty (Kyndell’s favorite), Spiderman, Batman, etc.

This year we also did the maze. It’s fairly big. It does cost an extra $3 per person to do the maze, but the kids wanted to do it so we went for it. Kyndell led the way through the maze and we successfully found our way through. With one exception. We went in the out and out the in. lol.

And what Christmas experience would be complete without Santa Clause? Lights of the South has the most realistic looking Santa Clause ever and plays the roll great! Here is a picture of Santa & Kyndell:

So, if you’re ever in the Augusta area, head down to Grovetown and check out Lights of the South, I’m confident you won’t regret the experience.

Hours of Operation are 7 nights a week, from 6pm to 10pm, November 20th through December 30th. They are however, closed on Christmas day. One other note from experience, get there as close to if not a little before 6pm otherwise you will have a fairly long wait in line as it quickly gets packed.

Ugh…

17 Oct

My back is killing me. Between PT Wed and my run Thursday, and then that three hour road trip to NC yesterday, it’s put a real hurting on my back. I’ve been having to use my TENS unit like crazy. A TENS unit for those of you unaware is this marchine that has pads you stick to your back and it sends electical pulses to the muscles and makes them rapidly contract which helps alleviate the pain.

I leave tomorrow for Camp Lejeune, that’s going to be a 5-6 hour trip and not gonna help out my back much at all. But yea, going up there till Thursday for the MCAAT conference for work.

I got my Florida Concealed Firearms License so I get to wear my XD concealed through SC now vice having to put it in the glove box.

Well guess that’s all for now. Gonna hit the sack.

On the Road Again

15 Oct

Heading up to Charlotte this morning. We left a little over an hour ago. The I-I (Inspector-Instructor), which is the Marine Officer in charge of our unit wanted to head up there for a meet n greet basically. We have a lot of new Marines at our company and battalion has a lot of new Marines too, so we’re heading up there to get some face time.

Whelp, we just hit a traffic jam. Sitting still on I-20.

Ugh…

New website, yet again.

12 Oct

Gonna attempt to keep this one going.  I’m always changing my mind.  We’ll see how this goes though.  This is not going to be anything organized what-so-ever.   This will probably be in the running for the Guiness Book of World Records for the most random website.
